The New Millennium
First let me apologize for the delay in sending out the first newsletter of the year. Well enough of that let’s talk about the Y2K version of Limestone College Women’s Lacrosse.

Last year the Saints finished with an impressive 7-5 mark and a record setting #6 National Ranking. This season, with the return of 17 letterwinners and the addition of nine new faces the Saints look to improve on that impressive mark and break into the top five for the first time in program history.

The attack could be the strongest point on the field for Limestone this year. Returning all four starters from last year and adding great talent in Kathy Campbell and Cathy Rice, an impressive attack now becomes lethal. Led by senior All-American Megan Crouse (30-21) the offense will be expected to average more goals per game this year than last years average of 11.5. Becky Buppert and Jody Kennedy will be two of the driving forces behind that goal.

In the midfield All-American Dawn Smith is joined by a season Angie Meyer to lead a group that deeper than ever. After an injury filled freshman year Steph deBullet will be relied on to add more scoring power to the midfield while newcomers Steph Allen and Bridget Dorsey will also make an impact. Rounding out the midfield are returners Gina Authement and Crystal Ford who combined for six goals last year.

The defense could see the most changes in 2000. Starters Christina Gribbin, Kathy Marten, Eliza McCormack, Shannon Cashour all return for 2000, but with the move of junior Stephanie Meyer and the addition of Brooks Stewart the defense becomes stronger than ever before.

In the goal, junior Vicky Perkins will be expected to cover the cage for most of the time, but newcomers Mahoney and Kay will make things competitive.

Take a strong team, add a bit of speed, a wealth of experience, and a healthy dose of depth and what do you get? The 2000 version of Limestone College Women’s Lacrosse. Hope to see you at a game!

Nine Newcomers to Make a BIG Impact in 2000
1999-2000 was one of the most productive years since the programs inception with regard to recruiting. Nine new players join this years roster filling vital roles and increasing the depth of the squad.

Stephanie Allen, a freshman from Columbus, OH, joins the Saints after three successful years at Worthington-Kilbourne High School. Touted as one of the best players in the Columbus area, Steph looks to make a play for a starting position in the midfield.

Also in the midfield, freshman Bridget Dorsey from Herndon, VA brings a wealth of experience and outstanding athleticism to her position.

The defense benefited the most in recruiting as three field players and two goalies join the roster. Brooks Stewart, Stacy Coolbaugh, and Amanda Baughcome all step onto the field looking to join the starting four on the of the field. In the net the Saints look to freshmen Chrissy Kay from Wantagh, NY and Krysten Mahoney from Altamonte Springs, FL to fill the void left by the graduation of Cindy Watkins. Kay, a two year starter at Wantagh High School, will bring the experience of Nassau County lacrosse to South Carolina. Mahoney, also a two year starter, led her team to the Florida State Championship game in 1999. Not bad additions considering the entire defense from last year’s squad returns for the 2000 campaign.

On the attack, transfer Kathy Campbell joins Limestone after one year at Chesapeake Community College. Campbell, a high school standout at Queen Anne’s, is expected to use her tremendous speed to compete for a starting position. A proven goal scorer, she will add more punch to the Saints potent offense. Cathy Rice, a freshman from Edgewater, MD, graduated from South River High School in 1999 and brings the experience of playing in one of the best club leagues in the country. One of the best stick handlers in the freshman class, Rice will make an impact on an attack that scored over 85 goals in twelve games last year.
